Robert J. Shovlin, 81, of Allentown, died Nov. 30, 2021, in Fellowship Manor, Whitehall. He was the husband of Eileen (Moser) Portz-Shovlin. Born in Danville, he was a son of the late Frank J. and Lucille (Andes) Shovlin.
He was a graduate of Hazleton High School, Class of 1958 and Lehigh University, Class of 1962.
He began his 38-year long career as an engineer with PPL in 1962, retiring as the vice president of power production in 2000.
He was a member of The Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit, Emmaus.
He was a member of the Lehigh Valley Road Runners Club and was an avid runner, competing in numerous marathons. He was a skilled fly fisherman and photographer. He loved to travel and was a self-taught chef.
He volunteered his time one day a week with the Wildlands Conservancy, Lehigh County Historical Society and the Da Vinci Center.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Karen M. and her husband, David Diaz Jr., Laurie E. and her husband, Rob B. Christine, all of Coopersburg, Megan E. and her husband Scott J. McShane, of Perkasie; sons, Andrew D. and his wife, Deanna J. Portz, of Emmaus, Adam M. Portz and his wife, Kylie Wolgamott, of Middlebury, Vt.; a sister, Dorothy and her husband, Alfred Beers, of Springfield; grandchildren, Austin and Abigail Portz, Noah and Caleb Diaz, Myla and Olin Portz.
