Red hat warms the soul Kind hiker leaves note for those who may follow

By MICHAEL HIRSCH

Special to The Press

Walking along the Covered Bridge Trail, with friends in the Trexler Preserve, Schnecksville, on Nov. 27, this reporter noticed a red knit hat with tassel hanging from a rail of the bridge.

Tied to the wooden rail with a string of green yarn, we noticed there also was a handwritten note attached to the hat.

Looking closely, we read what some kind soul had written: “I am not lost. Take me to stay warm. Try to do something nice for someone else.”

We could only wonder about the kindness and generosity of the person who left behind a hat that would not only warm a head but also a soul.
