Pete’s Top-10: Pates end strong despite loss
As we enter the first week of December, the final poll of the season is upon us.
It was a great season to be a part of, mostly because everything felt back to normal.
Now, the challenge for teams heading into the offseason is who can sustain their success and who can improve each day.
Freedom started the year as the top team and ends in the top spot following its narrow defeat to Philly super power St. Joe’s Prep last Friday. The Pates certainly proved they could compete with anyone, but the challenge is now defending their district crown and getting back to the state tournament.
Northern Lehigh is the lone team alive, as the Bulldogs have put together an impressive postseason streak. Now they run into powerhouse Southern Columbia, but just like Freedom last week, I think the Bulldogs can make this a game.
However, at this stage of the season, a few snaps, one mistake or a missed tackle can be the difference between moving on to Hershey or going home.
Unfortunately, it’s time to sign off on another year of picking these games. Thanks for all of those who read the column, and as always, we’ll be back next year.

Bulldogs have had an incredible run, but they now take on PA small school power Southern Columbia. A mighty task, but they can compete. Not sure they can finish a team like this off though.
