In honor of Older Americans Month, 22 Lehigh County residents and one group of about 70 people were honored as part of the Lehigh County Aging and Adult Service’s 21st annual tribute to Unsung Heroes.

One of those honored was Lori Paules, of South Whitehall Township.

This tribute honors older adults in the Lehigh Valley who have displayed exceptional generosity with their time and talents to enrich the lives of others in the community.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2021 celebration looked a little different.

Instead of the annual recognition ceremony, honorees received certificates of recognition, flowers, a pin and yard sign delivered to their homes.

According to her tribute:

“Lori Paules has served as president of the Board of Directors of Lehigh Valley Active Life for two years.

“Due to the pandemic we closed on March 13, 2020, and laid off all staff except one. Lori, who was always a very active board member, sprang into action.

“She was there to help with fundraising, facility renovations, leadership, daily operations and planning.

“Due to her hard work and exceptional dedication, Lehigh Valley Active Life is now poised to reopen better than ever, ready to serve the senior population of Lehigh County with an improved facility, strong balance sheet, and more efficient delivery of services.

“In the midst of a global pandemic that targeted seniors, Lori showed tremendous courage and determination to not be cowed and to continue to make a difference for others.

“She knew the value of a senior center like Lehigh Valley Active Life and wanted to make sure it remained an option for seniors once the pandemic ended.

“Lori is a hard worker who always completes any assignment she accepts.

“She is conscientious about doing a job the right way.

“She is a leader who welcomes all suggestions and works well with others.

“She is the MVP of Lehigh Valley Active Life for 2020, and her positive impact on the Center will be felt by thousands of people for decades. All while being a caregiver too. Simply amazing!

“Congratulations to this Unsung Hero!”
