John A. Achenbach, 88, of New Tripoli, died Nov. 23, 2021, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.

He was the widower of Mary C. Achenbach, who died in 2019.

Born in Pottsville, he was a son of the late Orlo E. and Tillie (Straub) Achenbach.

He served his country in the U.S. Navy.

A 1951 graduate of Pottsville High School and a 1953 graduate of Salvation Army Training College, the Bronx, N.Y., he later went on to earn his Bachelor of Arts degree from Asbury University.

He was a teacher at Northwestern Lehigh High School until retiring in 1993.

He was a longtime member of The Salvation Army, Pottsville.

His survivors include his daughters Jean E. Achenbach and Erika M.E. Robinson, both at home.; grandsons Colby and Chad Witt; great-grandchildren Kyra, Kaleb and Corinna Witt; and sister Diane (John) Kasko of Drexel Hill.

He was predeceased by siblings Orlo Achenbach and Martha Sterner.

Services will be private, at the convenience of the family.

Interment will be in Grace Community Church Cemetery, New Tripoli.
