Lehigh Township police handled investigations of two accidents that took place just hours apart Nov. 25.
Just after noon, officers were dispatched to Riverview Drive (Route 145) just north of Washington Drive for a reported two-vehicle crash with entrapment.
According to Police Chief Scott Fogel, a 2005 black Ford F150, operated by Tanner Shelanick, 22, of Catasauqua, collided head-on with a Toyota Sienna minivan, operated by Jennifer Gomez-Marrero, 37, of Laurys Station.
Shelanick was ejected from his vehicle, and Gomez-Marrero had to be extricated from hers, according to the report. There were no passengers in either vehicle.
Shelanick was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg. Gomez-Marrero was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest.
No other information on the conditions of the drivers was available at press time.
Fogel said a preliminary investigation indicated alcohol may have contributed to the crash.
While police were investigating, a second crash was reported just before 3:30 p.m.
According to the report, a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, operated by 57-year-old John Czuba, of Danielsville, crashed off the roadway in the area of 157 Riverview Drive, approximately a mile from the first crash scene. Witnesses told police the motorcycle began to swerve, then left the roadway and crashed into an embankment.
Czuba was pronounced dead at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg, according to a report from the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Route 145 was closed for about five hours during early investigations of both crashes.
Lehigh Township Police Department was assisted at the crash scenes by Lehigh Township Fire Department, Lehigh Township Fire Police, Walnutport Fire Department, Northampton Regional EMS and NOVA EMS. Walnutport Police and Moore Township Police assisted with covering calls in Lehigh Township.
