Joane M. Wood, 72, of Kempton, died unexpectedly Nov. 14, 2021, in her home.

The loving wife of Keith A. Wood, the couple celebrated 50 years of marriage in June.

Born in Chestertown, Md. and raised in Haddonfield, N.J., she was a daughter of the late Alexander and Jane (Swinton) Mackrell.

A longtime member of Friedens Lutheran Church, Stony Run, she was a teacher and led a preschool program for many years.

She was dedicated to her family, friends, gardening and helping those around her.

In addition to her husband, her survivors include her son, Joshwa A. Wood of Kempton; and daughters, Courtney A. Wood of Philadelphia, and Lindsey A. Wood of San Francisco, Calif.

She was predeceased by her sister, Diane Mackrell.

There will be a private celebration of life held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent in her name to her daughters’ nonprofit Global Hope Alliance, 2155 Richland Terrace, Quakertown, PA 18951 or on Venmo @GlobalHopeAlliance.

Funds will supply a library in her honor, as well as other educational projects in Africa.
