LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Hunter Bleam had spent most of his springs before high school playing baseball. But heading into the spring of his freshman year at Salisbury he was becoming bored with it and looking for something new.

So he gave another sport a shot.

“I tried track and field and I really just fell in love with it right at the start,” said Bleam

Thanks to his decision to try something new Bleam will now be headed to Lehigh to continue his athletic and academic careers as he signed a letter of intent on Wednesday.

For Bleam, Lehigh was a school that had always been on his radar.

“I’ve always lived close to Lehigh,” he said. “It’s always kind of been in the back of my mind. I really like the coaches. I like the environment there.”

There was also one other big factor that swayed Bleam’s decision: food.

“Getting that home cooked meal every now and then was definitely part of it,” said Bleam.

Bleam was also considering Penn State, Rider, Lafayette and Monmouth.

He has stood out in both throwing and jumping events during his time at Salisbury. During his freshman season in 2019 Bleam finished third in high jump and sixth in javelin at districts.

He was even more impressive last season coming second in high jump and third in shot put in leagues, finishing second in shot put and first in high jump in districts, and finishing sixth in states in the high jump.

While Bleam has excelled at track and field he has participated in a number of other sports throughout his high school career with four years of basketball, two years of cross country, a year of football and a season of golf all on his resume.

Bleam has displayed his all around athletic abilities through his participation in other sports as well as in the variety of events he competes in. With his ability to compete in so many different events he is set to try out something new once again, as he will be competing in the decathlon at Lehigh.
