Volunteer opportunities
HOLIDAY HOPE CHESTS needs volunteers to donate wrapped shoe boxes filled with age-appropriate items for Lehigh Valley’s children in need. Suggested gift lists are provided on their website. This program, coordinated by the Volunteer Center, is a great project for large/small groups, clubs, classes, families and individuals. NORTHEAST COMMUNITY CENTER, Bethlehem, is seeking Spanish speaking tutors to assist students during the after school homework club 3-5 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Students range in age from six to 13 years old. All volunteers must complete background checks, wear face masks and be vaccinated for COVID-19. CHRISTKINDLMARKT, SteelStacks in Southside Bethlehem, needs a lot of volunteers for a variety of tasks at the newly expanded holiday festival. Consider signing up for two to three volunteer shifts, Thursday through Sunday beginning Nov. 19 to Dec. 19. Minimum age to volunteer is 15 or 14 with adult. MILLER-KEYSTONE BLOOD CENTER, Allentown, needs volunteers at the Cedar Crest Donor Center to give out snacks with a smile while monitoring donors to be sure they are doing well after donating. The two shifts available are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays or 7:30-11 a.m. Mondays. This does require a 1.5-hour orientation and (free) PA state clearances. No community service hours. LUKE’S UNIVERSITY HEALTH NETWORK needs volunteers to assist in lobbies, inpatient nursing, emergency department or hospice by spending time socializing, providing comfort items and assisting staff with various supportive duties. THE CENTER FOR ANIMAL HEALTH AND WELFARE, Easton, is seeking volunteers to walk dogs, assist with a.m. cleanings, attend off site events to promote the shelter, cat and dog enrichment and general shelter help.
