Sheckler Elementary School gave a special acknowledgment, in honor of Veterans Day, to transportation drivers Fred, Steve, Tom and Isabelo for their previous service in a branch of the armed forces.

Sheckler Elementary students will have early dismissal Nov. 19-24 for parent-teacher conferences.

Students will be dismissed 11:45 a.m. There will be no meals served on these days.

Winter coats, hats and gloves will be distributed 9 a.m.-noon Nov. 20 at the Catasauqua Area School District administration office, 201 N. 14th St. Those who are interested must provide proof of residency.

This is the district’s fourth year handing out coats for students. According to Lois Reed, district business supervisor, the group gave out 150 coats last year and 175 the year before.

CASD partnered with Presbyterian Church of Catasauqua, Holy Trinity Memorial Lutheran Church, the Rotary Club and Historic Catasauqua Preservation Association to make this coat drive possible. District staff members also assisted with donating coats.

The Catasauqua Rough Riders are hosting an ugly sweater fundraiser to benefit the field hockey team.

CASD will be closed Nov. 25-29 for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Students will resume their normal schedule Nov. 30.

Sheckler staff members are encouraging parents to take a look at the lost and found and have students pick up their belongings.
