Fighting Hunger: Community meals planned
BY SHARI NOCTOR
Whitehall-Coplay Hunger Initiative president
Best wishes for a fantastic holiday season!
I wanted to let you know about our upcoming December free community meals and how you can support Whitehall-Coplay Hunger Initiative.
WCHI and the faith-based community are proud to provide free meals once again to low-income Whitehall-Coplay households twice a month through December 2022.
The host locations change every time, and they will decide if masks are required. All are welcome to attend both meals 4-6:30 p.m. the first Sunday and third Tuesday of each month. Meals are guaranteed for the first 100 guests.
As we get closer to the meal date, each site location will state if this is an inside or outside drop-and-go distribution or if it is a dine-in meal. WCHI will post the site requirements for each meal on Facebook.
For more information on the meals, call 484-225-0358.
December meals include a Dec. 5 drop-and-go bag distribution at Muslim Association of the Lehigh Valley, 1988 Schadt Ave., 703-346-8698; and a Dec. 21 drop-and-go distribution at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 835 Third St., 610-533-1357.
Monetary donations are appreciated and can be made payable to the Whitehall-Coplay Hunger Initiative. Put in the memo section where you want your monetary donation applied. Go to tinyurl.com/WCHIprograms to review all the programs we currently offer.
WCHI is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and your donation may be tax deductible.
We always need donations of baby and adult diapers, feminine products, shampoo and conditioner, soap, tissues, toothpaste, toothbrushes and toilet paper.
Federal government programs such as SNAP and WIC do not allow the funds for these programs to purchase toiletry items. Second Harvest Food Bank, where we get 85 percent of our food, also cannot purchase toiletries.
For low-income residents, toiletries are very expensive, and the lack of certain items, such as baby diapers and feminine products, can create some health issues.
Food donations are also appreciated.
Food, toiletry and monetary donations may be shipped or dropped off at RE/MAX Unlimited Real Estate, 1080 Schadt Ave., Whitehall, 18052. Leave donations inside the foyer on the right. The office is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturdays and 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Sundays.
Go to tinyurl.com/WCHIPantryList for our list of both food and toiletry needed items.
Individuals, businesses, school clubs and faith-based organizations have all done donation drives for us. If you are interested in doing one, go to tinyurl.com/WCHIdrive.
Amazon Smile is another way for you to support us. It doesn’t cost you anything and takes only a minute to set up Whitehall-Coplay Hunger Initiative as your Amazon Smile charity. Go to whitehallcoplayhungerinitiative.org/amazon-smile.html.
Thank you all for your continued support.
Happy holidays!
