During the Nov. 4 Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners meeting, the commissioners discussed the referendum for the income tax increase for land preservation. With approval by the voters, the commissioners are getting to work. With a potential land acquisition, a proposal was made to submit request for proposals for banking assistance.
A potential land acquisition is the reason for some quick action. An RFP has been sent to various banking facilities with hope of getting a resolution by the Dec. 16 meeting. The township is looking to make a loan for $5 to 8 million for a land purchase with payment to be made from the additional tax. The deadline for purchase of a particular property is necessary by March 2022.
Resolution 2021-54 was approved for authorizing the dedication of a right of way for the extension of Sauerkraut Lane. Resolution 2021-55, is creating temporary easements for Liberty Property Limited Partnership and was also approved for this project which relates to the construction of this road.
A new development is proposed for Mertztown Road. It is for 400 dwellings; 268 are to be single homes and 132 are to be town homes. There will be a trail system and generous landscaping with open green space. Current roads in the area will have some changes. There will be visitor parking as well as three spots for parking at the town home area.
The township will be auctioning off some surplus property. This will occur through Municibid. There is also the possibility of donating a vintage truck to a museum. This action was approved by the commissioners.
There may be a need for a special meeting 6 p.m. Nov. 15 due to changes that will affect the budget.
