The Northampton cross country team was represented by Even Dempsey at the state meet this past weekend.

Dempsey advanced to states after taking 13th place in the District 11 meet at DeSales. Dempsey had a time of 17:34 at districts.

A senior, Dempsey finished 168th with a time of 18:05.7. It concluded quite a journey for the Northamton runner.

“Evan has worked his way up throughout his time with us,” said head coach Dan Benner. “From his first race as a sophomore as the 11th guy on our team, to the state meet is an incredible journey.”

Benner said Dempsey has come back and worked harder each year.

“In his first district race as a sophomore he finished 89th,” Benner said. “Then 32nd last year. And then finally 13th and a state qualifier as a senior is remarkable.

“Evan earned everything he got and I couldn’t be more proud of his effort and accomplishments.”
