A crash Nov. 3 on Cherryville Road, Lehigh Township, has claimed the life of a Northampton woman.
According to the Lehigh Township Police report, the crash occurred 4:30 p.m. in the 500 block of Cherryville Road. A gray Honda Accord was traveling northbound. Several vehicles had stopped on the roadway while waiting for a vehicle turning into a driveway. The Honda struck the rear end of a red Nissan Murano SUV, then entered the southbound lane and collided with a red Hyundai Elantra. The Elantra left the roadway and struck a tree. The driver of the Elantra, Brenda Kohler, 80, was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg, where she later died.
An autopsy determined Kohler died from multiple blunt force injuries.
The investigation is continuing. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call Lehigh Township Police at 610-760-8800.
This is the first fatal crash in the township in the last 1,090 days. Lehigh Township had developed a Vision Zero program to reduce serious and fatal crashes after averaging more than 30 crashes per month and fatal crashes occurring for nine straight years.
After following the Vision Zero plan, Lehigh Township has averaged approximately 15 crashes per month over the past two years - a nearly 50-percent reduction.
