Carl R. Herring, 88, of Allentown, died Oct. 31, 2021, in The Lutheran Home at Topton, Diakon Senior Living Services.
He and his wife, Mary Ann (Kunkel) Herring, were married 61 years. Born in Lenhartsville, he was a son of the late Elton D. and Mabel (Sunday) Herring.
A graduate of Kutztown High School, he attended Penn State Center, Berks campus, and then earned his engineering degree from Lafayette University.
He began his career at the former Western Electric Company, Allentown, working there for many years, mostly in the wire bonding department.
A U.S. Air Force veteran, he served in the post Korea era as staff sergeant navigator in a B-29 bomber.
Living in Allentown most of his adult life, he was a member of Cedar Church, Cetronia.
An active member of the community, he was a longtime member of the Cetronia V.F.D. and served as the membership secretary.
He was a 50-year member of Vaux Lodge 406 Free and Accepted Masons, Hamburg; Valley of Reading Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite; and also the Rajah Shrine.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons Michael Herring, Steven Herring and wife, Sharon, of Allentown; brother Irvin Herring of Lenhartsville; and grandchildren Tyler and Leah Herring.
He was predeceased by a brother Donald Herring.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Nov. 5 at Trexler Funeral Home, 1625 Highland St., Allentown, with the Rev. Candi Cain-Borgman officiating. Interment Cedar Church Cemetery, Cetronia.
A calling hour will be held noon-1 p.m. Friday at Trexler Funeral Home.
