Salisbury CFO Mike Taylor renders resignation
A special board meeting was held Oct. 25 at the Salisbury Township administration building.
At the special board meeting, the board approved the resignation of Chief Financial Officer Michael Taylor effective Dec. 14.
Joe Gnall said he wanted “to thank Mike ... we were not in the greatest of places when you got here ... you opened up our eyes to look at things a little differently and I appreciate that.”
Gnall also asked for the plan to replace Taylor.
Board Vice President Sam DeFrank also thanked Taylor for his service and wished him the best of luck.
Other board members and Superintendent Lynn Fuini-Hetten offered their thanks and congratulations.
Board President George Gatanis said Taylor “always found unique ways to get us out of some tough situations we’ve had. A breath of fresh air ... in how he handled our finances. I thank you for spending your time ... Good luck to you in the future.”
Taylor has been with the district for three years.
Other resignations included part-time instructional assistant at Salisbury Elementary School Robin Skidmore, part-time instructional assistant at SES Sierra Mamay, part-time instructional assistant at Salisbury Middle School Rosemarie Ambriano-Yob and instructional assistant at Salisbury High School DawnMarie Ligas.
The board approved the interim agreement between the Pennsylvania Association of School Business Officials and the district effective Oct. 26 to provide an interim business manager – Christine Stafford.
The board approved Laura Gelsomini pending completion of requirements as a part-time art teacher at SMS.
Alexandra Youse was approved for a building substitute position at SMS.
Zachary Williams was approved as a full-time long-term substitute special education teacher at SES.
Megan Basile was approved as the sophomore class adviser.
An FMLA request and two general unpaid medical leave requests were approved. A sabbatical leave request was approved for a teacher at SES.
Fuini-Hetten commented on the personnel items approved.
The instructional assistant resignations are causing great concern as they provide a direct service to the students. Two full-time instructional assistant postings were created to provide one-on-one support to the students. “We need to meet our students’ needs ...” Fuini-Hetten said.
Fuini-Hetten said there are no current applicants for a part-time Spanish teacher. They are looking at many different options. Ninety learners are signed up for Spanish at the middle school.
Fuini-Hetten said there is a possibility of a need for a full-time German teacher next year as well.
Lastly Fuini-Hetten said the CFO position opening has been posted and applications are due Nov. 5. There are several applicants already. Requirements are listed in the job posting.
An overnight extracurricular trip for the high school and middle school wrestling teams to Chambersburg Dec. 28-30 to participate in a wrestling tournament was approved.
Another trip for the high school wrestling team to go to Montgomery Jan. 14-15, 2022 for a wrestling tournament was also approved.
During citizens comments regarding agenda items, Thomas Spinner spoke regarding Taylor’s resignation and thanked him for his efforts. Spinner is concerned about the plan to replace Taylor.
