Pool house haunted for holiday frights

In the spirit of the Halloween season, the Catasauqua Municipal Pool, 501 American St., was transformed into the Haunted Pool House, an event held 6-10 p.m. Oct. 22, 23, 29 and 30.

Many members of the Catasauqua High School Drama Club played parts to scare attendees.

“It was a great way to show the creative students we have in our school,” Jill Smerdon said.

The project is part of the Friends of the Park program that Smerdon initiated a few months ago.

“We started this program first to determine what we need to do about the pool - keep it or scrap it,” Smerdon said. “It is a mess now. Now we see where we need to plan to update our parks.”

The group wants to put together an action plan over the winter.

This is a grassroots effort. The volunteers took in donations during the summer concert program.

The concession stand was open for the Haunted Pool House event, and all proceeds will benefit the parks and pool.

“Now we get to the tough part - we are looking for sponsors for our parks,” Smerdon said. “We are confident we can build a better parks program that we have now.”

Stay tuned for more about programs over the winter months.
