Coplay to consider road repair agreement

Emergency road repairs - a small sinkhole - on Ruch Street in August have prompted Coplay Borough Council to consider an intermunicipal agreement bet- ween the borough of Coplay and Whitehall Township.

Council discussed the issue at its Nov. 2 workshop meeting and will vote on the agreement at its regular meeting, set for Nov. 9.

In other business, it was announced the borough received a letter from Cetronia Ambulance Corps in appreciation of a $2,000 donation.

Councilwoman Janet Eisenhauer gave the first reading of the 2022 borough budget. She explained all chairpersons reviewed the budget and came back with recommendations. The budget will be discussed in more detail at the next meeting as council will vote to approve its first reading.

Later in November, the data will be published and available in the borough office for those who wish to view it.

Mayor Dean Molitoris thanked the Coplay Recreation and Welfare Committee for planning the borough’s 2021 Halloween parade. He also thanked the planning commission and Paul Boyle and the borough public works crew for the installation of the town clock.

Coplay Public Library will be holding several activities for November, such as guest speakers and contests. Eisenhauer explained the details are on the library website. The library will also hold a fundraiser this month.

Council President Louis Bodish indicated the new borough building on Bridge Street is very close to being complete. Several items remain on the contractors’ “punch list,” and the final grading is expected to occur Nov. 4.

Bodish also reported recycling will be held Nov. 24, since the borough office is going to be closed Nov. 25 and 26 for the Thanksgiving holiday.
