Girls earn silver medals

The Parkland girls cross country team earned silver with a strong performance at the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference cross country championships held last Tuesday at DeSales University.

Collectively the Trojans finished 21:21 with 60 points, 17 seconds and nine points behind champion Emmaus.

Leading the way for Parkland was junior Jessica Price, who this season has emerged as an outstanding runner. Price finished in seventh place overall in 20:34.

“I was pretty happy with my performance today,” said Price. “I had a plan to beat my previous time on this course and I did that so I’m happy.”

Price ranks the DeSales course at the top.

“This is one of the best cross country courses in my opinion,” she said. “Because you start out with it flat and then there are some good hills in the middle, and then the big hill and the cornfield at the end so I think it’s really good to pace yourself.”

Sophomore Gracie Trexler was the next Trojan runner to finish in 21:16, good for 12th place. Behind her was teammate Elena Wenger, a junior, at 21:20, followed by Zoe Patselas at 21:45 and Abbey Bender at 21:49, good for 13th, 15th and 17th overall.

Freshman Lucy Tobia showcased Parkland’s depth by finishing next in 22:25 and 28th place. Homare Yamashita, Emily Beers and Lydia Jenkins-Ford completed the Trojan contingent with 31st, 54th and 55th place finishes, respectively.

The District 11 3A championship is scheduled for Oct. 27 at DeSales.
