Lioness Club hosts scarf shower Nov. 6

The Lioness Club hosts its annual scarf shower 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 6 at Emmaus’s Triangle Park. The scarves are handmade by members of the Emmaus Lioness Lions Club as a service project to be given away free to anyone needing a scarf. The rain date is Nov. 13.
Don’t forget to vote. The municipal election is Nov. 2.
The Emmaus Moravian Church, 146 Main St., is holding a sugar cake sale Nov. 13. Cakes should be picked up 9 to 11 a.m. Orders should be placed by Nov. 10 but it is possible there will be extra cakes to sell Nov. 13. Place orders by calling the church, 610-965-6067 or emailing emcsecretary@emmausmoravian.org.
Emmaus Borough Council will meet 7 p.m. Nov. 1 and 15 in borough hall, 28 S. Fourth St. Borough hall will be closed Nov. 11 for Veterans Day and Nov. 25 and 26 for the Thanksgiving holiday.
The Emmaus borough’s compost center on Kline’s Lane is open until Dec. 4. Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday and Friday; 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.
The borough’s curbside leaf collection will continue through Dec. 10. Leaves should be raked out to the curb line at the beginning of each week. The public works department will continue to collect twice a week. However, if there is winter weather and the streets need to be plowed, any leaves in the road will be plowed. Reminder: the borough is hosting a household hazardous waste day at the Emmaus Community Park 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 30. For details of what is accepted, visit borough.emmaus.pa.us.
There will be a screening of submitted films from the Emmaus Arts Commission’s Student Film Festival starting 6 p.m. at the Emmaus Theater Nov. 1. The event will be an Oscar-style event with nominees, a red carpet and awards. There is a ticket charge. Parental guidance is suggested. For information, visit emmausarts.org/SFF. Plaudits to the members of the Emmaus Arts Commission for their hard work on the event.
The Emmaus Historical Society’s museum, 218 Main St., is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. Member meetings and programs are still on hold until further notice.

The Emmaus Garden Club will meet noon Nov. 9 at Faith Presbyterian Church, 3002 N. Second St. The program will be “Using Palettes of Colored Foliage, Trees, Shrubs and Perennials” by Karl Gercens. His passion for horticulture started at an early age while growing up on a 10,000-acre cotton plantation in Mississippi. Today he is a section gardener at Longwood Gardens, responsible for many of the changing displays in the four-acre conservatory. Guests are always welcome. For more information, call 610-395-0903.
The Emmaus Farmers Market is held 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Sunday, rain or shine at Triangle Park, Main Street in Emmaus.
The Emmaus Public Library will close 5 p.m. Nov. 24 and remain closed through Nov. 28 for the Thanksgiving holiday.
The library is offering a free flu vaccine clinic 5 to 7 p.m. Nov. 15. No proof of insurance or residency is required. The clinic is sponsored by Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center and administered by Lehigh Valley Health Network staff.
