CHS girls take sixth
Catasauqua’s girls’ cross country team received a boost in the Colonial League meet, and the boys’ team hoped for one in the near future.
The girls’ squad finished sixth overall at the league meet, while the boys’ unit finished last, both from the 11-team field at DeSales University. The District 11 meet was held Thursday at the same site after heavy rain on Tuesday. The event was past press deadlines.
During the regular season, the girls’ team posted an overall 10-14 mark, and the boys were 4-20.
“Our girls were fantastic with their sixth-place finish,” said Rough Riders head coach Kyle Rusnock. “We finished ahead of some teams that we didn’t beat in the regular season.
“The boys’ team has set themselves up to improve and make a statement at districts. We had a serious couple of days of practice and we looked forward to districts.
Sophomore Alivia Bear was the top finisher at 26th in a time of 23:23.42 from the 71- female field. She was followed by junior Kaylee Weidaw, who was 35th in a time of 24:47.42.
Senior Lucy Brubaker crossed the line at 48th in 26:12.48. Fellow senior Ashley Ritter was 51st in 26:22.12, and senior Bronwyn Pacchioli ended 70th in 31:12.49.
Ritter knew it would be a challenging day.
“The course at De Sales is definitely harder than others we have run so far,” she noted. “So, the team didn’t have their best times.
“However, I thought we ran really well based on how tricky the course was. We are all looking forward to districts. It’s almost like a bittersweet ending because it is a hard course, but it will also be our last meet of the season.”
Junior Jaydon Reynolds topped the boys’ field with a 74th place finish from the 96-male field in a time of 23:04.00, and fellow junior Gavin Cunningham was 82nd in a time of 23:54.07.
Senior Cole Brown was 85th overall in a time of 24:09.21, and fellow senior Jared Schneck checked in right behind him at 86th in a time of 24:09.76.
Senior Jaryn Hartranft netted an 88th finish in a time of 24:32.59, and fellow senior Mitchel Lewis was 91st in a time of 26.05.82. Senior Edward Popa-Nina was on his heels with a 92nd spot in a time of 26:05.2, and sophomore Mikhail Hartranft closed out the boys with a 94th finish in 27:22.72.
