’Canes hope for new life

The District 11 field hockey tournament gets underway this week with Liberty and Bethlehem Catholic both gearing up for postseason action.

The Hurricanes (9-9) enter the 3A tournament as the sixth-seed and travel to take on third-seeded Parkland (14-6) in Thursday’s opening round at 3 p.m.

The other matchup in the bottom of the bracket features second-seeded Nazareth (17-1) against seventh-seeded Stroudsburg (8-8). The top half features tournament favorite and top-seeded Emmaus (21-0) against eighth-seeded Whitehall (9-9). Fourth-seeded Easton (13-5) and fifth-seeded Northampton (11-7) are the other contest.

Semifinal round is slated Nov. 3 with finals on Nov 6.

In 1A action, Bethlehem Catholic (5-12) gets in as the final team in tournament, as they enter as the sixth-seed. They play third-seeded Wilson (13-5) on Saturday at 10 a.m.

The winner gets second-seeded Palmerton (13-4-1) in the semifinal round on Nov 3.

The top half of the bracket features Moravian Academy (15-3) as top-seed, as they await the winner of fourth-seeded Palisades (11-6-1) and fifth-seeded Northwestern (10-7-1).

Championship finals are set for Nov 6.
