There are two candidates seeking the position of Lehigh Township tax collector: Democrat Mary Louise Trexler and Republican Thyler Hantz. Voters will choose one in the Nov. 2 election.
The candidates were asked to respond to the following question in 100 words or less:
What makes you uniquely qualified for this position?
MARY LOUISE TREXLER
I have been the Lehigh Township tax collector for 36 years. My experiences have been endless. Residents are respectful and appreciative of whatever I can do for them.
They are my top priority as I provide resources aside from just tax collection. I collect taxes by U.S. mail, drop box, appointments for curbside collection and I pick up in person for the homebound. I work with mortgage companies to ensure payments are made through escrow accounts. I provide receipts for property tax rebates and for permits to carry concealed weapons. If re-elected, I plan to return to in-person office hours.
THYLER HANTZ
I am honored to be a candidate for the Lehigh Township tax collector position in the 2021 election. I have a bachelor’s degree in accounting and associate degree in business management. I understand the importance of the position and promise to carry out the responsibilities to the fullest extent. I will be a tax collector not only for the township, but also for the residents. I plan to work directly with the township to create a streamlined process to ensure efficiency, accuracy and timeliness of turning over funds collected and filing the required monthly reporting obligations to the township.
