There are two candidates seeking the seat of Catasauqua Borough mayor: Democrat Jeremy Costenbader and Republican incumbent Barbara A. Schlegel. Voters will choose one in the Nov. 2 election.
The candidates were asked to respond to the following question in 100 words or less:
What do you see as the most important issue for voters in this election?
JEREMY COSTENBADER
The most important question for a voter is: Will our leadership hold themselves accountable for their actions or lack thereof? Will they work for the communities’ best interest and listen to their constituents? While leadership often needs to see the “big picture,” they can forget it is made up of individuals with needs, needs that must be met by our community leaders. We need a communication pathway to our leadership and not be sidelined by politics. I want Catasauqua to demand a higher standard. As mayor, I would roll up my sleeves and be your leader, not just a title.
BARBARA A. SCHLEGEL
I am a proud lifelong Catasauqua resident committed to volunteerism with 26 years as your elected official. My main voter concern is to reinforce my personal commitment and actions to make Catasauqua a better, safer place to work, live and to raise your family. My mayoral duties involve every entity of this borough, with a special emphasis on public safety. I work with the police chief, fire chief, borough manager and borough council to ensure those who protect and serve us are trained and properly equipped. I truly care for Catasauqua and am looking forward to serving another four years!
