Hokendauqua: First Presbyterian Church of Hokendauqua pastor steps down

The Rev. Christine Kass recently announced her departure as pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Hokendauqua, 3005 S. Front St. Her last sermon was Oct. 10, with her official last day Oct. 15.

I wish Kass well on her future endeavors, and I thank her for her contributions to this column.

In other First Presbyterian Church news, the Fellowship Fun Time events have resumed, and the group meets 1-2:15 p.m. Fridays on Zoom.

Also, a recent book club meeting was held 10 a.m. Oct. 7 on Zoom. The group discussed “You Are Never Alone” by Max Lucado.

Trick-or-treat night in Whitehall Township will be 6-8 p.m. Oct. 29, with a planned rain date of Oct. 30. If you want to hand out candy or other fun items, make sure to turn on your porch light.

The last two days of the Haunted Hayride in the Parkway event are Oct. 29 and 30.

This Halloween-themed event takes place 7-11 p.m. both days at Whitehall Parkway, 4689 S. Church St.

Proceeds benefit Whitehall Fire Department.

Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3355 MacArthur Road, will be hosting a trunk-or-treat event 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Oct. 30.

Decorated vehicles will be on display, and volunteers will be handing out treats. There will also be games, music and refreshments.

Donations of nonperishable food items will be accepted for holiday baskets.

The rain date is set for Nov. 6.

Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church’s holiday craft and quilt fair, with tables inside and outside, is planned for 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Nov. 13. Masks are required indoors.

This is a big fundraiser for the church and is always a popular event for the community.

Have you purchased your ticket for the Whitehall-sponsored Longwood Gardens trip Dec. 11? Call Tony Cocca, township recreation bureau chief, at 610-437-5524, ext. 1135, to see if tickets are still available.

The bus will leave Whitehall 2 p.m. and will depart the gardens 10 p.m.

The cost is $65 per person, which includes transportation and admission. Purchasing food is on your own. There are many venues to choose.
