Council approves borough hall gym use

At its meeting Oct. 12, Coplay Borough Council voted to grant permission to Coplay Sports to use the borough hall gym several times a week for a youth basketball program.

Presently, the gym is being used to store equipment from the police department, which was cleared out when improvements were done. As soon as the gym is clear for use, Coplay Sports will use the gym space 5:30-7 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; 5:30-9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays; and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

This approval was given with the stipulation that if the borough would have someone who wishes to rent the gym, the borough would give Coplay Sports a 48-hour notice.

Also, approval was given for aerobics classes to resume in the borough hall gym 7-8 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays as well as 8:45-9:45 a.m. Saturdays.

In other business, a motion was made to approve the placement of two no-parking signs at 315 Schreiber Ave. on the east side. These signs are being installed so the new borough sanitation truck will be able to turn out of Pink Alley. The no-parking hours will be posted as 7 a.m.-noon Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays.

A bid was received for the 2000 GMC T8500 garbage truck on Municibid in the amount of $5,800. Council voted to approve the acceptance of this bid.

Karen Stoisits and Gary Walbert were approved to serve on the Coplay Public Library board. Stoisits will be finishing an open term that will extend through February 2023. Walbert will continue to serve another four-year term ending in December 2025.

Council approved a coal bid from Hobel Coal in the amount of $175 per ton of treated rice coal.
