District News: Photography on exhibit at WHS; artist’s talk set for Oct. 21
There will be an exhibit of the photography of Charles Stonewall to start the Zephyr Art Gallery exhibition season. This will continue throughout October.
In addition, Stonewall is participating in an artist’s talk, set for 3-4 p.m. Oct. 21 in the large group instruction room at Whitehall High School.
Stonewall, an artist and educator originally from Easton, earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in photography from Kansas City Art Institute and a Master of Arts degree in studio art from University of Missouri-Kansas City. His work has appeared at a private reception in the Louvre Museum in Paris, France. He received the Inspiration Grant for research in healing arts.

Wear red day at Gockley Elementary School is Oct. 18. During this school spirit day, students and staff are encouraged to show their nationwide support for the efforts to reduce the demand for drugs in our country. Children may wear red socks, shirts, sweaters, shoelaces, hair ribbons or anything else red.

Seniors, if you would like to appear in the 2022 yearbook, make sure you get a photo taken by Oct. 29. Contact Christmas City for your senior portrait.
If you cannot make it to the studio, there are two final senior portrait days at Whitehall High School - Oct. 20 and 21.

In case WHS underclassmen missed it, there still is an opportunity for a school picture to be taken. Retakes are scheduled for Oct. 22.
If a picture package was purchased, Christmas City Studios will be mailing it home prior to picture retake day.

Whitehall High School’s Leo Club is putting together Halloween candy bags to donate to both the children’s hospital and nursing homes. Students can bring any donations for the cause to room B109.

The Gockley and Steckel Halloween parades are Oct. 27. The rain date is Oct. 28.
Parades are set for 1:30-2 p.m. for Steckel Elementary students and 2:15-2:45 p.m. for Gockley Elementary students, both at the WHS football stadium.
Parents are invited to watch their children parade around the track. Parents must be seated in the bleachers.
Your child’s teacher will communicate with you whether your child should wear their costume to school that day. Please have costumes for the children that are simple and require minimal assistance. Costumes must be in good taste rather than types of costumes depicting violence.

A reminder about procedures for elementary pickup: Student dismissal for parent pickup will begin 3 p.m. Parents should arrive no earlier than 2:30 p.m. and no later than 3:20 p.m. A note must be sent to your child’s teacher each day that they will be picked up at dismissal. Parents who intend to follow this process indefinitely should send a note saying that their child is a yearly pickup and obtain a numbered car tag. All pickups are located at the back of the school. Please follow the signs that are posted to guide you to the pickup area.

Free ESL (English as a Second Language) classes are available for Whitehall-Coplay School District students and family members.
Classes are held online 6-9 p.m. Thursdays and are open to all family members of WCSD students.
You must attend a class at least three Thursdays per month for three months.
