Allen board considers fire vehicle repairs
Allen Township Board of Supervisors met Sept. 28 to discuss repairs to one of the fire company’s trucks and to pass three resolutions.
Public works crew leader Tom Gogle was present to discuss the necessary repairs to the fire company’s 2008 Mack. Originally, the repairs were supposed to be around $8,000 for two parts - an EGR valve and turbo. The price increased to almost $25,000 after the repair company reportedly broke the exhaust manifold stud and determined the whole exhaust system needed to be replaced.
The truck, while a 2008, only has 41,000 miles on it and has had barely any significant issues in the past, it was said. Board Chairman Dale Hassler, who also serves as fire chief, said the truck should be repaired, noting it is not doing any good sitting around like it has since June, especially with winter approaching.
Supervisors agreed the township shouldn’t have to pay for something the repair company broke and agreed they should look for another repair company. The board approved the payment for $25,000 worth of repairs, following a discussion about the broken part and the cost of inspection.
Gogle and the board also discussed some future plans for the fire company with a more in-depth presentation to occur at the upcoming budget meeting. In the next five years, he hopes to replace at least the 2006 Freightliner and 2008 Mack.
In other business, the board passed three resolutions.
The first resolution pertained to an extension for the High Meadow Estate subdivision. Solicitor Lincoln Treadwell Jr. said the company has four extra years from the date public sewer becomes available to build the development.
The board also accepted deeds of dedication for sections of Eisenhower Drive and 32nd Street.
Lastly, the 2022 budget workshop meeting was approved to be held 6 p.m. Oct. 19.
The board will meet 7 p.m. Oct. 12 in the fire company building, 3530 Howertown Road.
