The Oct. 4 Emmaus Borough Council meeting began without a personal appeal or any special presentations.
Mayor Lee Ann Gilbert announced in community minutes Emmaus’ public heroes will be honored at the Emmaus Public Library 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 7.
In communications, John Ashley requested reappointment as the civil service solicitor. Meals on Wheels sent a letter to thank council and the mayor for all they do for Emmaus.
Additionally, a request was received from the Emmaus Recreation Commission to hold summer concerts and movie nights at Emmaus Community Park next year. These events are held annually.
The second reading of Ordinance 1215 was the only item in unfinished business. The ordinance deals with “small wireless facilities in the borough of Emmaus rights of way which provide for the purpose and scope, definitions, permitted uses, application, fees, siting, removal, alteration and collocation.”
In the mayor’s report, it was announced trick-or-treat night will be held 6-8 p.m. Oct. 29.
A volunteer application was received from Karl Hertwig to join the environmental advisory committee. It was also reported Emmaus’ Dumpster Day brought in $1,720.
In public safety, a correction was made about Councilman John Hart’s latest comments regarding the police chief search. The selection process will include both internal and external candidates.
An updated agreement was received for the HGTV Hometown Sweepstakes. HGTV is rewarding Emmaus with a mural to be painted in the borough.
In the borough manager’s report, Chris Lubenetski was promoted to master firefighter. Lubenetski has been with the department since 2012 and recently completed the driver operator aerial certification training. Additionally, Harry Huhn IV was hired as a firefighter II.
Jermaine Hussett was promoted to Department of Public Works, Class 4 after receiving his pesticide license and pool operator certification.
