Kids fall to Freedom

The EPC is littered with state-ranked girls volleyball teams and the Konkrete Kids faced one on Tuesday when they traveled to Freedom for an inter-divisional contest with the Patriots. The Bethlehem squad came out on top 25-18, 25-14, 25-11.

Head coach Mike Holihan addressed the team’s performance.

“We get stuck in these ruts where we can’t seem to find a way to pass the ball,” he said. “In those sets where we stay focused and pass the ball, we either win or lose by a couple of points. We just have to get over this hump we’re stuck on right now.”

The K-Kids were competitive in the first two sets trailing only 16-12 and 15-12 before Freedom went runs to widen the gaps.

Angela Fischer led the team with 5 kills. Molly Hughes, Naomi Nebiyou, Molly Zweifel, and Morgan Chandler all had 3.

Molly Hughes had 15 assists. Morgan Hughes led the team with 12 digs. Payton Reuber had 6 blocks.

Although the team was disappointed with the loss to Freedom, their record just past the halfway point of the season stands at 6-4. Three of their 4 losses are to teams ranked in the top-10 in 4A in Pennsylvania. They are well-positioned to qualify for districts and the EPC tournament.

The K-Kids have an intense week ahead of them. Thursday, they host Whitehall in the first leg of their two Cement Belt Challenge matches. The Zephyrs are 3-6 on the season.

On Monday, Northampton will honor their senior players before their match against Emmaus. The Green Hornets are undefeated this season and beat the Kids in straight sets on September 11.

Thursday’s match against Whitehall will also be Brain Cancer Awareness Night as Northampton continues in its fundraising efforts in the memory of former coach Jess Finlayson who passed away earlier this year. There will be raffle prizes and attendees are encouraged to wear purple or gray.
