Moore supervisors approve new warehouse ordinance
At the Sept. 9 meeting, Moore Township Board of Supervisors unanimously approved an ordinance that changes warehouse development in the township from a by-right use to conditional use.
Solicitor David Backenstoe reviewed the warehouse ordinance amendment 2021-04 with the board before the vote.
Backenstoe added the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission gave a glowing recommendation, saying the Moore Township warehouse ordinance was “forward thinking and incorporated best practices.”
The forward thinking aspects of the ordinance were described as requiring a top-of-truck snow removal tool, spacing requirements, a comprehensive traffic study, a driver’s lounge, idling restriction provisions and environmental conditions such as buffer installations and landscaping provisions.
Supervisor Richard K. Gable thanked Backenstoe and citizens for their input, calling the ordinance a “super ordinance.” A copy of the ordinance can be found at mooretownship.org.
In other business, the police report indicated there were 321 incidents during August. There were 13 arrests, including theft, simple assault, corruption of the morals of a minor and terroristic threats.
The fire department reported 34 fire calls that included five fires and three calls for motor vehicle accidents. There were 51 ambulance calls.
Dell Road was rebuilt, according to the public works department report.
In his First Regional Compost Authority report, Gable said there is an abundance of mulch that is free for Moore Township residents. Residents will have to load the mulch themselves.
The recreation commission reported the volleyball court design at the recreation center is being finalized.
The recreation commission also requested permission to purchase a second scoreboard for the recreation center. Moore Township Athletic Association would pay for it. The supervisors voted to grant the scoreboard request.
Gable provided the historical commission report. He noted the Edelman School improvements are progressing.
Gable also said an OktoberFest event is Oct. 14 at the Klecknersville Rangers Volunteer Fire Company social hall, 2718 Mountain View Drive. Visit mooretownship.org for cost and other information.
The Community Days Committee added a member, Josh Cesanek.
“The committee did a nice job with Community Days. Everyone had a good time,” Chairman Daniel Piorkowski said.
Backenstoe reported he wrote a draft ordinance to take Trapper Road off the township road file. The supervisors voted to advertise the ordinance.
Backenstoe also reported on the West Dell Road ordinance that prohibits all truck traffic except for local deliveries or for emergency vehicles. The supervisors voted to advertise the ordinance.
Township Manager Nicholas C. Steiner said the township’s website needs an upgrade. Steiner said the cost to update the website is about $4,500. The federal American Rescue Plan funds can be used for the upgrade.
The supervisors voted to hold the township’s trick-or-treat night 6-8 p.m. Oct. 31.
The next Moore Township Board of Supervisors meeting will be 6 p.m. Oct. 7 at the Klecknersville Rangers social hall.
