During the Sept. 20 Macungie Borough Council meeting, Macungie Institute was discussed. Roseann McGinn, president of the Macungie Institute trustees talked about recurring problems.
The role of the trustees was further clarified with an excerpt from the policy manual. Understanding financial issues and making recommendations for staffing and programs are among some of their duties.
It was determined a plan is needed. There have been 16 resumes received for the coordinator position. These applicants will be screened and the number reduced to three. A decision will be reached on the coordinator involving the trustees and council.
A resident spoke about water problems on Apple Alley. Work was done on this alley and the problems arose after the project. The road has been pitched the wrong way and there is no swale. This problem started after the work was done on the roadway. Water goes into residents’ homes due to this. The public works department will be consulted on how to fix this problem.
The MS4 program regarding the Mountain Creek wall will become part of a grant from Growing Green.
Macungie Borough Council President John Yerman spoke about bidding on projects in that it is governed by the state. The rule is to use the lowest bid unless there’s a good reason.
A contract with the postal service for postal meter usage was discussed. The current contract is for $25 a month and it will increase to $48 a month.
Council was presented with the plans to authorize the revamping of the computer system in the borough.
An executive session was held regarding personnel.
