North Catty council makes parade plans

During North Catasauqua Borough Council’s Sept. 20 meeting, council President Peter Paone, in his report, discussed plans for the upcoming Halloween parade Oct. 20. The parade itself will begin 7 p.m., but staging will start 5:30 p.m. Final planning was set to take place this week. The parade is a joint event with the borough of Catasauqua.

Borough residents and businesses are encouraged to sign up to join the parade and/or sponsor the event through the application on Catasauqua’s website, catasauqua.org. The application deadline for both is Sept. 30.

Paone also mentioned Grove Street Pub & Grille, the new establishment soon to open at 1092 Howertown Road, North Catasauqua, is the biggest sponsor of the parade so far, which he said certainly signals a “positive development for the borough.”

Paone reported the sewer stack rehabilitation project was completed Sept. 15, requiring only a few days of construction.

Testing conducted by the borough’s engineer back in January determined the concrete lining of several manhole shafts in the borough were leaking, thus letting groundwater into the sewer system and incrementally increasing North Catasauqua’s water treatment bill to the borough of Catasauqua.

The leaky liners were all replaced through the now-completed rehabilitation project.

Councilwoman Jessica Cope, of the public parks and property committee, updated council on the planned planting of new trees at North Catasauqua William J. Albert Memorial Park, 701 Grove St. The new trees have been ordered and are set to arrive at the nursery by the end of September, at which time they can be planted.

The committee also plans to order outdoor fitness equipment to be installed at the park, as well as signs to name and describe the various plants in the new pollinator garden.

Councilwoman Cherie Gebhardt, of the recreation committee, detailed the success of the final summer concert, which was held at the North Catasauqua park Sept. 16. Gebhardt said the musicians of Steel Creek did a great job and that the committee intends to bring the band back again for next year’s concert series.
