At the Aug. 26 workshop meeting, East Allen Township Board of Supervisors voted 4-1 to grant a waiver for the Airport Road Lot 1 warehouse project.
At the Aug. 11 supervisors meeting, project representatives requested a waiver regarding the size of frost/footers, but there was concern of potential legal concerns from the township.
The project included the installation of 12-inch footers, which was approved by Pennsylvania Department of Transportation standards. However, the township requires a 30-inch frost/footer. When the developer was informed of the township’s 30-inch requirement, it complied and adjusted the plans.
The waiver was requested for three footers that had been previously been installed in 2018. The developer did not want to have to replace those footers.
At the Aug. 11 meeting, the board deadlocked in a 2-2 vote. Another meeting was held that did not resolve the issue.
The warehouse representatives had Northampton County sign a letter holding the township harmless in the future, thus paving the way for the waiver’s approval.
In other business, there was a discussion on the Weaversville curve study draft. There are reportedly plans to eliminate the numerous curves on Weaversville Road.
The study was stimulated because of a number of accidents associated with the curves. No decisions were made at the meeting.
A discussion on the township’s involvement in road hazards and maintaining rights of way was tabled. The discussion was stimulated by a supervisor alleging at the Aug. 11 meeting that the township would be removing trees from a private property and charging taxpayers for the cost of the tree removal.
A final discussion occurred on potential grant applications that could address the replacement of a pavilion at the Bicentennial Park East and Jacksonville Park pavilions.
