‘Christianity the African way’
With a packed program and participants’ unending energy, the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Coplay held an action-packed celebration called PraiseFest.
The PraiseFest event, held Sept. 11 and 12, was billed as the biggest African Christian celebration in the Lehigh Valley. Pastor Bola Akomolede thanked all for attending the event that he called “a season of soulful worship.”
A sub-theme of the event was “Celebrating Christianity the African way.”
The PraiseFest program included 21 items. The passion of the singers, presenters, entertainers, program participants and attendees was palpable.
Pastor Tenitope Samson opened the program with a stirring invocation of prayer and passion.
Fidelia Mbaka gave a solemn tribute to the 9/11 terrorist attacks in 2001 and their impact on the nation.
The event included a children’s parade of African nation flags, Bible readings, a tribute to 9/11, an offering to victims of Hurricane Ida, six ministrations and music.
The children’s African nations flag parade was led by Sister Rhoda in choreography and dance. Approximately 16 African nations were represented by the parade.
Third Street was closed from Coplay Street to Hall Street. The tent setups were full of church members and Coplay residents.
Food and refreshments were served, and water was distributed throughout the afternoon - all at no cost. The fellowship and kindness of the attendees and leaders of the PraiseFest were heartwarming.
