LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Early dismissals for Salisbury schools Sept. 17

The weather is finally getting cooler and with the official return of football and fall sports, that means it’s time to break out the hoodies and boots. We are hoping by now the students are all settling into the routine of being back at school and are doing their best. Fundraisers have begun and we are well on our way for the year.

Salisbury High School will hold its fall picture day Sept. 16, while students at Salisbury Elementary School will have their turn Sept. 20. Photos can be ordered online, through Christmas City Studios, with the login information the school provided. If you missed this information, contact your students’ respective school. The link to order closes 48 hours after picture day.

All Salisbury Township schools will have their first early dismissal of the year Sept. 17. SHS and Salisbury Middle School will dismiss 12:15 p.m. and SES will dismiss 1:15 p.m. If there are any changes to dismissal for students at SES, remember to communicate that in the dismissal app.

SES will hold the next T-shirt day Sept. 24. Make sure your shirts are ready to go.

The next school board meeting will be held 7:30 p.m. Sept. 15 in the administration building.

Nominations are now being accepted for the Alumni Wall of Honor. For more information or to make a nomination, visit the Wall of Honor section of the salisburysd.org website. Nominations are due by Oct. 1.

Movies at the park will be held Sept. 17 at Franko Park. They will be playing “Raya and the Last Dragon” with an estimated start time 7:15 p.m. Bring your own chair or blanket and all park rules apply. Children must also have an adult with them.

There will be a Chance Basket Raffle at Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church of Eastern Salisbury, 1707 Church Road, Allentown, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 17. Also 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 18. There will be two days to put tickets in baskets; no refreshments. Winners can pick up baskets after 3 p.m. Sept. 18. For tickets, contact Louise at 484-456-1148.

Township branch collection is scheduled to begin the week of Sept. 20. Branches need to be no longer than 5 feet long and 5 inches in diameter. They should be bundled together with twine and placed curbside. Open containers may be used for smaller branches. Branches must be clean and separate from other yard waste.

The township yard waste sites continue to be open alternating weekends. Hours for taking yard waste are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday and Thursday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays. The Franko Farm site will be open Sept. 20, 23 and 25 while the Devonshire site will be open Sept. 27, 30 and Oct. 2.
