North Catasauqua Autumnfest event planned for Oct. 10

At the Sept. 7 North Catasauqua Borough Council meeting, Marc Hillenbrand, of the North Catasauqua Betterment Committee, discussed the upcoming Autumnfest, set for 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 10.

The rain date for the event is Oct. 16.

Hillenbrand said many craft and food vendors have signed up. Horseback riding will be available, but there will be no food-eating contests this year.

Hillenbrand reported he and two borough citizens want to compile a list of military veterans from North Catasauqua who were killed in action. They plan to create banners in honor of those service members and hang them around the park.

Borough council members were in favor of the idea, but Paone said they would like to see the full list before giving approval. Council wants to know if they need to allocate more space around the borough for the banners.

These banners will be hung up from Memorial Day to Veterans Day.

In other business, council discussed Halloween activities. The Halloween parade is set for 7 p.m. Oct. 20, with a rain date of Oct. 27.

The police department is planning to hold another trunk-or-treat event at North Catasauqua William J. Albert Memorial Park, 701 Grove St., for the night of trick or treat. Molchany and council discussed potential dates for trick or treat and said Oct. 30 will likely be chosen.

North Catasauqua Police Chief Chris Wolfer asked council to accept the resignations of Officers Michael Renner and Paul D’onofrio. Council then moved, at Wolfer’s request, to add Quentin Knecht and Dennis Connelly as part-time officers.

Roger Scheirer, fire chief and assistant director of emergency management, informed council all fire extinguishers in the borough have been inspected and two firefighters are going through EMT school and will graduate in January 2022.

Paone announced sections of the D&L Trail in North Catasauqua were damaged during the recent floods, meaning the project’s expected completion has been pushed back to May 2022.
