Young Hurricanes aim for growth this fall season

Liberty’s volleyball team is looking for progress this season coming off a 6-6 campaign a year ago.

The Hurricanes are led by head coach Connor Swigart, who understands there could be some growing pains for the relatively untested group.

“While we are returning several girls with varsity experience we only have three seniors, so there will a lot of underclassman gaining valuable experience this season,” Swigart said. “They are a group that really strives to get better and push each other to grow each day. They love playing and love being around each other. Our success will be predicated on how we come together and how well everyone embraces their roles.”

Back for Liberty are Brylee Tereska (OH, SR); Sydney Marino (DS, SR); Ayana Bomani (MB, SR); Courtney Shire (Libero, JR) and Sydney Houchens (OH, JR).

Top newcomers include Alyssa Rachwal (Setter, JR); Lilly Paranee (OH, JR); Patrice Kasten (MB, JR); Ava Janny (DS, JR); Hannah D’Angelo (MB/OPP, JR); Lora Flynn (Setter, Soph); Bella Martens (DS, Soph); Gianna Sciarra (DS, Soph) and Bailey Corrigan (OPP/OH, FR).

“Our goal is to always compete and leave it all on the court,” Swigart said. “Their effort has been that of a team that is hungry for competition and to prove themselves everyday. As any season we want to be in the mix for EPC, districts and playing our best volleyball at that time.”
