Pates look for better mark this season

Last year was difficult on everyone and Freedom’s field hockey team is looking forward to a fresh start in 2021. The Patriots are coming off a 1-9 season a year ago, but enter with more optimism about their chances this fall.

“We are excited to get this year rolling, and most importantly that we will get to face all EPC teams, not just Northampton County like last season,” said head coach Brianna Musselman. “After graduating four seniors we are ready to fill their positions with new and returning talent.”

Coming back for the Pates include Paige Telatovich (Forward/Mid, Junior); Paige Jenkins (Forward, Junior); Madison Horvath (Defender, Junior); Lauren Jancsarics (Goalie, Senior); Ellie Bozikis (Junior, Defender); Hannah Lovell (Senior, Midfield); Savannah Marshall (Senior, Midfield) and Mia Testa (Senior Defender).

“Captains for this season include junior attack players Paige Telatovich and Paige Jenkins, and senior defender Mia Testa,” Musselman said. “We are also looking out for our juniors Madison Horvath and Ellie Bozikis to be key role players in our defense circle. Our main goal for this season is to take quick shots in the circle in order to increase and improve on our goals scored for our team. Defensively we are looking to smoothly and quickly transition the ball out of our defensive circle and up the field to attack.”

Newcomers include Madelin Cooper (Junior); Brooklyn Kollar (Sophomore); Mia Faisetty (Sophomore); Aly Laubach (Freshman); Ann Sweeny (Junior) and Molly Twiggar (Junior).

“Our goals and improving our goal differential and making our transitions smoother on the field,” Musselman said. “We’re working together cohesively as a unit and aim for a winning record.”
