NORTH WHITEHALL: St. John’s UCC to barbecue chicken

St. John’s United Church of Christ, 1415 Rising Sun Road, Laurys Station, will host a chicken barbecue from 4-6:30 p.m. Sept. 11, for eat in, and 4-7 p.m. for take out.

The adult meal includes half a chicken, baked potato, corn on the cob, lettuce with bacon dressing, beverage and dessert.

Children’s dinner has two drumsticks, macaroni and cheese, applesauce, cookie and beverage.

Meals may be enjoyed in the social hall or may be taken home.

Union Lutheran Church, Schnecksville, welcomes the community to Book Fest in the Family Life Center from 10 a.m. to noon. Sept. 12,

Visitors may browse and choose books which appeal to them. All books are totally free.

Union Lutheran has been providing the option of in-person worship in the sanctuary or outside on the parking lot, both at 9 a.m.

Pastor Gordon Camp reports everyone entering the building will be asked to wear a mask, due to the spread of the Delta variant of COVID-19.

“With this precaution, we hope to keep everyone as safe as possible while continuing to worship in our sanctuary,” the pastor says.

Union United Church of Christ, Neffs, will resume in-person sanctuary worship at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Sundays starting Sept. 12.

The building has new air conditioning units with a recommended air scrubbing system.

Pews will be marked for three feet of distancing. Special music will be provided in place of congregational singing.

Pastors will greet people outside on the porches.

Since COVID-19 began, the congregation had most Sunday services in the grove.

The Auxiliary of Northern Valley EMS, NOVA, will be baking shoofly pies for pickup on Sept. 19 and 20.
