New faces and five seniors for Liberty tennis team

Liberty girls tennis coach Chris Conrad guarantees “a bunch of fresh faces” for the 2021 season.

With the transfer of the Hurricanes’ number one singles player Veronica Lynn to Notre Dame Green Pond, Sruti Tekumalla has stepped into that role.

Stephanie Zheng will compete at number two singles.

“Both have tennis experience and have played at the club level,” Coach Conrad said. “Definitely, no matter what, we’ll be in matches this year.”

Sofia Csatari, also a lacrosse player for Liberty, will be the Hurricanes’ number three singles player.

Returning to the Hurricanes’ doubles circuit are Hemani Patel and Elise Kney, who will play at number two, up from number three doubles last year.

“They will be our most formidable,” said Conrad. “They played a lot this summer and winter.”

At three doubles are Sofia Hortsman and Bianca Justance, and playing at four doubles are Ava Sabetti and Xenise Price.

“This year will be fun and an opportunity to grow and build. We want to have a polished product, and we have gotten remarkably better between day one and day five,” Conrad stressed.

The Hurricanes already began the regular season on Aug. 23, traveling outside of Northampton County to Pocono Mountain West, a first since COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted for fall sports in the East Penn Conference.

“It’s definitely more exciting and also makes it more nerve-wracking,” Conrad said. “We haven’t played these teams for a year-and-a-half, so it’ll be unfamiliar, different competition.”
