Press Photo by Jim Marsh Firefighters from Western Salisbury Volunteer Fire Company drill their water supply skills in a training exercise at the Cedar Crest Professional Park, 1255 S. Cedar Crest Blvd., Aug. 23. Firefighters are often called on to provide a water supply to their own firefighters, or to engines at the scene of a mutual aid call in other municipalities, with a long run of 4-inch hose line to a remote fire hydrant. Because seconds count at a fire scene, the firefighters practice timed evolutions laying a long hose run, hooking up to a hydrant and getting water to an engine and on to a simulated fire.
