Girls soccer has strong core of experience
The Salisbury High School girls soccer team should once again be strong this upcoming 2021 season, but according to head coach Rick Babyak, the Falcons will be looking for depth in numbers to compete.
It will be an all-hands-on-deck type of approach and they are still in the process of trying to add to the roster.
“One thing I’m looking at this year is our depth,” said Babyak. “Our numbers are down this year with the loss of some players in the offseason. We need to keep everyone healthy. We are still looking to add players to our roster.”
Salisbury will be led by a returning group of seniors. Forward Quinn Wittman, who has 37 goals and 21 assists in her career, is 13th in program history for career points. She will be joined by classmates Kathy Medina (forward), Aaliyah M’Bai (midfield), Mona Shields (forward), Chase Watto (defense) and junior goalie Hannah Kamp.
“We have a very strong core of experienced players and team leaders with several proven goal-scorers and a high quality goalkeeper,” Babyak said. “We have a young group around them. Team leaders have been stepping up instilling a sense of pride and confidence to help the newcomers grow into our system. We have several talented and enthusiastic newcomers who we are expecting to step into varsity roles this season.”
Even with uncertainty in numbers and who will step up, Babyak still has the same goals and expectations for his Falcons as he does every season.
“We will have our successes if we can stay healthy and if we can find the right balance between our experience and youth,” said Babyak. “We want to be competitive in every game and to make the playoffs. It is nice to see that even after some adversity our players have a great attitude and are working hard to continue to build this team.”
Salisbury begins its regular season portion of the 2021 schedule on Friday morning, Sept. 3, at home against Notre Dame East Stroudsburg.
