Queenship holds successful festival
Queenship of Mary Roman Catholic Church, 1324 Newport Ave., Northampton, held a successful festival on a picture-perfect-weather day Aug. 8. Attendees were excited for the event, as the 2020 edition was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Highlights of the day included good food, fun for all ages and plenty of fellowship. The festival lived up to its promise.
Musical entertainment was provided by the Dave Betz Polka Band, followed by Flirtin’ with the Mob. The bands’ music filled the entertainment tent throughout the day.
A train ride called the OLH (Our Lady of Hungary) Express was operated all afternoon for the kids attending, and Kandi’s Karicatures entertained children.
The cuisine included homemade pierogies, macaroni and cheese, funnel cakes, french fries, egg rolls, Mario’s pizza, cabbage and noodles, baked goods, shucked corn and much more. Adult beverages - beer, wine and wine coolers - were available for purchase. There was a bake sale, a cash raffle and a gift card/basket raffle.
Father Patrick Lamb, dressed in a Phillies jersey, was delighted with the turnout and the apparent fellowship of the attendees. He was also delighted to hear the Phillies were leading the Mets after four innings during the festival.
Lucy Schneck, staffing the Mario’s Pizza stand, said pizza sales had been brisk. Schneck said some of the offerings at the festival were donated, with volunteers staffing the stands. She said she was very happy to assist at the festival.
At the bake sale stand in the church’s social hall, bake sale coordinators Linda Hutnick and Paula Schleicher pointed out all the baked goods were homemade and selling rapidly.
Eileen and Tom Bauer, ticket sellers, said food and drink ticket sales were steady since the event began.
Attendees and volunteers were grateful for the fellowship and the excellent weather, which made the day complete.
