Firefighters respond to Lehigh Street flash flood

Press Photo by Jim Marsh Western Salisbury Volunteer Fire Company firefighters are called to the Lehigh Street intersection at 33rd St. SW just before midnight Aug. 18 for a water rescue with a car stuck in rising flash flood waters. The intersection in front of South Mall is notorious for flash flooding in heavy rainfall. After checking and finding the motorist was no longer in the vehicle, firefighter Lt. Jared Tierno and Assistant Chief William Sames use a pike pole to find a submerged drainage grate clogged with storm debris, preventing the intersection from properly draining.
