An afternoon of yoga — and goats

The goat yoga classes at George Taylor House, Lehigh and Poplar streets, Catasauqua, Aug. 15 were reportedly a unique and fun experience for participants.

Two classes were held - one for adults and the other for children and adults.

The yoga instructor was Toni Zuper, who is a Catasauqua High School Class of 1976 graduate. She now hails from Lansdowne. She has recorded a DVD and a CD called “Mindful Meditation.”

“It is kind of my first yoga class, but I am first trying to see what I think would be fun,” Zuper said.

And fun it was. The goats, named George, Taylor, Anne, Bugle and Woogie, did not disappointment attendees.

Rachel Guth helped at the event by getting the goats more involved in the experience with participants. The idea was to match the goats with the child, based on personality.

“We had goats at the farm for several years,” said Richard Guth, a volunteer with the GTH. “This birthing season, we thought we would go and see how we can get into the yoga craze.”

He noted the timing was perfect to hold the event now while the goats are old enough to be out and about yet still young and cute.

Richard Guth added there has been an increased effort in Catasauqua to provide recreational activities for residents.

As part of the day, a historic house tour was included with the purchase of a class pass.
