Coplay council OKs more police station upgrades

At the Aug. 10 meeting, Coplay Borough Council voted in favor of approving upgrades to the police station desks in the amount of no more than $8,000.

This will complement the new flooring being installed, as well as freshly painted walls, at the station, located in the borough hall building, 98 S. Fourth St.

In other news, a motion was made by Councilman Carl Luckenbach and seconded by Councilman Steve Burker to approve closing Hall Street to Coplay Street for a block party, scheduled for noon-7 p.m. Sept. 11 for Redeemed Christian Church of God, Living Spring International Center. The rain date for the event is Sept. 18.

All council members in attendance voted to approve the motion, and it carried.

Councilwoman Janet Eisenhauer stated in the library committee report that masks are required once again at Coplay Public Library, due to concerns about the COVID-19 Delta variant. The library will also have curbside delivery available.

Also at the meeting, Burker, in his parks and recreation report, noted the final free family movie night of the summer will take place 8 p.m. Aug. 19 at Saylor Park pavilion.

He also thanked public works Director Paul Boyle for hanging the Coplay Community Days banners throughout the borough and Whitehall Township Mayor Michael Harakal Jr. for granting permission to hang several Coplay Community Days banners in the township.

Community Days is slated for Aug. 27-29.
