Joint aggressive driving enforcement details at Allentown/Salisbury borders nets speeders

Certain roadways near the border lines between the City of Allentown and Salisbury Township are known as speedways where aggressive drivers feel they can ignore posted speed limits.

Responding to complaints by residents living or working along these roadways who fear the consequences of the unsafe practices of the aggressive drivers, Salisbury Township traffic enforcement coordinator Bryan Losagio periodically arranges enforcement details with traffic officers from the Allentown Police Department.

Details held along Fish Hatchery Road July 29 and along Susquehanna Street Aug. 3, netted speeding citations along with heavy fines and points against drivers’ operating licenses.

The speed timing detail along Fish Hatchery Road in the western portion of the township near the fish hatchery netted 10 citations, with one driver clocked at 67 miles per hour in the posted 25 mph zone.

The enforcement detail Aug. 3 along Susquehanna Street monitored both east- and westbound motorists in a posted 35 mph zone. One speeder was clocked doing 30 miles per hour over the speed limit, with a couple of dozen going about 20 miles per hours over the limit. About 30 citations were issued in the eastern portion of the township.

“East Susquehanna Street is a very narrow roadway, with many driveways and cross streets,” Losagio said, “which makes the area vulnerable to speeding accidents. We hope these enforcement details will make unsafe drivers more wary about driving aggressively in these zones.”

Losagio said the township’s enforcement efforts will continue in the near future along East Emmaus Avenue, East Rock Road and Seidersville Road, all notorious speeding corridors.
