Emmaus Police Department hosts National Night Out celebration

Recently the Emmaus Police Department opened its doors to the public to celebrate National Night Out.

As stated by Chief of Police Troy Schantz, one goal of the event was to “give a little back to the community.”

In response, many local residents took the opportunity to mingle with members of the Emmaus Police Department, fire department and ambulance corps in a casual atmosphere and to view the fire department’s new truck as well as the police and ambulance vehicles on display.

Interested attendees took tours of the police department. In addition, various community organizations were on hand to supply information and answer questions about the services they offer.

Music was provided courtesy of DJ Dutch. Lemonade, water ice and hot dogs were available.

Numerous free activities for children included a special guest appearance by meLVin, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms mascot.

Highlights of the evening included a dunk tank in which the Emmaus Chief of Police, several police officers and members of Emmaus Borough Council took the plunge in good fun.

In addition, Sgt. Vincent Murante and police dog Ronny, assisted by Officer Jayme Whipple, provided a K-9 demonstration.

What Chief Schantz described as “a little” give back, turned out to be a lot of fun for a lot of folks.
