Arts in the Plaza draws a crowd
Coplay Borough residents gathered July 28 at Community Plaza, North Second and Chestnut streets, for Arts in the Plaza.
The art exhibit debuted during the borough’s summer concert series, held every other Wednesday. The Jeni Hackett duo was the featured entertainer this night.
Arts in the Plaza was organized by resident Keith Sodl after he took up a recent interest in painting this past January. He theorized other residents may have taken up new passions when the world came to a sudden halt - which tested true as the art exhibit had three tables full of material to display.
The first Arts in the Plaza event featured only Coplay residents, but Sodl said the event may open to other local borough residents in the near future.
Hackett kept the crowd pleased with her stunning vibrato control. The duo traveled from the Blue Mountain area for their first appearance in Coplay.
Hackett has been a musical artist for the past 21 years. She developed her interest in music when a guitar was given to her after she sustained a bed-bound injury that kept her idle for weeks.
Residents filled the Community Plaza with beaming smiles and sounds of laughter.
A major contributor to the biweekly concerts was none other than borough Councilman Steve Burker. He could be seen enjoying the music with the other local residents and appreciating the artwork.
“The Wednesday night Coplay summer series has become a very popular event and continues to draw nice crowds that enjoy an entertaining evening in a stress-free, relaxing, people-friendly atmosphere,” said Burker, parks and recreation committee chairman.
The outdoor concerts are free. Visit Coplay Community Days on Facebook for upcoming events.
